In 2009, American geologist Adrian Helmsley comes to India to visit his best friend, astrophysicist Satnam Tsurutani, who is conducting research in a copper mine 3.5 km deep and discovers that the neutrino flux caused by an unprecedented solar flare heats up the Earth's core, and the temperature is rising very quickly. Although Adrian notes that this is impossible, since neutrinos do not interact with the matter of the Earth, Satnam suggests that neutrinos in a flash are transformed into a new kind of particles, which affects the core of the Earth, warming it up. After 20 hours, Adrian arrives at a charity event in a Washington hotel and tries to convince the head of the presidential administration, Karl Anheuser, to read his report. Soon after reading, an agitated Anheuser demands a car and takes Adrian to report to US President Thomas Wilson that this warming up will cause a chain of events that will inevitably lead to a global cataclysm.
At the G8 summit in 2010, accompanied by protests and riots, the US president, in the absence of outsiders (even interpreters), informs the leaders of other states about the impending catastrophe. Then it was decided to start building nine giant ships in China — "arks" capable of preserving humanity as a species. For the construction, the Chinese authorities are resettling a village in the Zhuo-ming Valley under the pretext of building a huge dam and recruiting workers from local residents with welding and construction skills.
