Shankar's life is not as rosy as he would like, he can be said to exist in terrible conditions, because he suffers from alcoholism. His lifestyle is at the lowest levels, together with his widowed mother, he holds a daily feast. For him, alcohol is a saving moisture, allowing him to abstract from the heavy burden of memories. In addition to his mother, Parvati, her half-brother with his wife and children lead the same negative lifestyle with him.
One day the main character swears a lot with his mother and in a fit of aggression decides to go to the city and try to stop drinking there forever. A few years pass, he becomes a completely different person, he managed to earn a lot of money, providing himself with a good life. Having received so many useful privileges from fate, he goes home to help his mother pay off the mortgage. Returning to his native places, he decides to marry his beloved Parvati, but finds out that she should become the wife of another. This grief makes him addicted to alcohol again in order to destroy his existence.
