In the land of cats, so similar to feudal Japan, the insidious official Ika Chu decided to expand his already gigantic palace in order to impress the current leader during the upcoming visit. However, he is hampered by the buildings of the poor village of Kakamucho. The insidious rich man has only one thing as negotiation tools — violence. He secretly hires a gang of thugs who must destroy the village. Its inhabitants, unaware that Ika Chu himself organized their pogroms, demand that he appoint a new samurai to protect them, because the previous one was scared and ran away. Ika Chu, of course, fulfills their request to his advantage and appoints Hank, a captive dog who was about to be executed, as the new defender.

In fact, Hank is a good hero, but, firstly, he is a dog in the cat world, and secondly, he is a complete zero in martial arts. In Kakamucho, he meets Jimbo, a retired former samurai who has a bad temper and a small problem with catnip. After some initial clashes, Jimbo reluctantly agrees to become a teacher and mentor to the newcomer. Of course, Hank will never be able to be a cat, but he aims to become a better dog.
