Yusra and Sarah, who lived in the Damascus suburb of Daraya, learned to swim from childhood under the guidance of their father. The Mardini sisters were different – one of them was distinguished by a serious character, and the other had rather frivolous and romantic views. Having become professional athletes, the girls were preparing to take part in the next Olympics, but the outbreak of the war in Syria turned their dreams into smoke. Soon the young ladies realized that it would no longer be possible to conduct training in their homeland. Teaming up with their cousin, the swimmers decided to get out of the embattled country and get to Europe.

There, the sisters had a chance to negotiate with some coach to continue preparing for the 2016 Olympic Games. Having overcome difficult trials, they managed to get to the Aegean Sea – the further journey of the determined trio had to go by boat. Having boarded an overcrowded smugglers' boat with other refugees, the young people hoped to reach safe Greece soon. When the engine of a leaky decrepit vessel broke down, several passengers who knew how to swim began to push it to the coast. Will both Mardini be able to stay on the water for the right amount of time and save their comrades in misfortune?
